Video and Live Photos of Transformers 2 Film Corvette Stingray Concept

Earlier today at the grand opening of the Chicago Auto Show, General Motors lifted the veil on its latest concept car, the Corvette Stingray that will play the role of 'SIDESWIPE' in the second iteration of the Transformer saga, called "Revenge of the Fallen". Unfortunately for Corvette fans, GM has no intention of building a production version of the concept, which is a pity as with the exception of the 'Batmobile-ish' rear-end, we found the Stingray's design quite sexy. Click through to see live photos of the Vette from the show as well as a video of the concept with GM Design Vice President, 'soft-talking' Ed-Welburn.

Chevy Volt Based 'Jolt' Transformer Autobot - First Official Photos

Along with the all-new Corvette Stingray Sideswipe character, visitors to Chevrolet's display at this year's Chicago Auto Show that opens its gates to the public on Friday, February 13, will also have the chance to see yet another new Chevy-based model that will star on Paramount's upcoming release, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." Jolt is a new Autobot character that appears in the production form of the 2011 Volt extended-range electric vehicle.

Tranformers JOLT Autobot - Chevrolet VoltLeaving aside from the fact that in the movie Jolt will turn into a human-like robot, the only visible differences between the production Volt and the Chicago Show Transformers film model, seem to be limited to the silver-colored exterior mirrors and the trim surrounding the lower part of the windows.

"Chevrolet is thrilled to again be part of one of the most anticipated movies in years," said Ed Peper, GM North America vice president, Chevrolet. "'Transformers' gives us a great opportunity to connect with young people on their terms, with a dynamic, environmentally friendly image. The new characters represent the change going on in Chevy showrooms. From the exciting Camaro, the 21st century sports car, to the game-changing Volt, there's more than meets the eye at Chevrolet today.

Corvette Sideswipe Transformer Makes Official Debut at Chicago Show

After all the rumors and more leaks than a New Orleans levy, the wait is over for General Motors' latest Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Concept that will play the role of 'Sideswipe' in the next Transformers movie dubbed "Revenge of the Fallen" due for release on June 26, 2009. Stylistically inspired by the original Corvette Stingray race car, introduced in 1959, the Autobot concept also draws on Corvette heritage cues from other generation models to create a shape that we wouldn't mind seeing influencing the next Vette.

"SIDESWIPE represents an exercise in exploration for the Corvette," said Ed Welburn, vice president of GM Global Design. "By giving my creative team the freedom to design no-holds-barred vision concepts, it helps them push boundaries and look at projects from different perspectives."

Stay tuned on Carscoop as we'll be bringing you more news from GM's Transformer stand at the Chicago Auto Show, including the first official photos of the Autobot-ized Chevy Volt.

Chevrolet Image Gallery from the Paris Show

Chevrolet Paris Show 2008General Motors’ Chevrolet brand had one of the liveliest stands at the Paris Show with the world premiere of the Cruze compact sedan and the Orlando multi-purpose concept car which will lead to a production model as well as with the European premieres of the production-ready Volt electric car and Camaro coupe. Even though the "plugged-in" Volt hybrid was the one to watch out for, we gather that the Cruze (see details here) was equally important as it represents the first of a new family of Chevrolet products that will be global models. Chevrolet Orlando Minivan Concept: 28 High-Res Pictures

Chevrolet Orlando ConceptThe wraps came off Chevrolet’s new Orlando concept at the Paris Motor Show. Based on the new Cruze sedan, the Orlando is a compact-sized, seven-seat multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and according to Chevrolet, it will spawn a similar production model in the very near future. The Orlando’s boxy exterior styling is eye-catching blending elements from an SUV, a minivan and a station wagon. However, don’t expect to see the flashy blue-LED lighting making it into production. -Continued

Chevrolet Orlando ConceptInside, the five-door Orlando features theater-style seating in three rows that can accommodate up to seven occupants. Chevrolet supports that, thanks to the 2,760 mm wheelbase which is 75 mm longer than that of the new Cruze sedan along with the wider front and rear tracks, the Orlando is a true seven-seater, with second and third row legroom of 950 mm and 753 mm, respectively.

The rear seats can be folded flat to create a large a large cargo area while a range of occupant and load-carrying configurations is provided by 60/40 second-row and 50/50 third-row split folding seating. Other interior features include an overhead storage compartment that extends along the center of the roof, providing additional stowage space for rear passengers.

The Orlando concept is powered by Chevrolet's latest-generation, 2.0-liter turbo diesel, developing 150 HP and 320 Nm of torque. The production version will of course be offered with a wide variety of gasoline and diesel engines (depending on the market).
