2010 Cadillac SRX Crossover Priced from $34,155

Cadillac has revealed that it's all-new and more compact sized 2010 SRX Crossover will hit U.S. dealerships this summer with pricing starting from $34,155, which is about the same as the entry-level RWD Mercedes GLK 350 ($33,900) but undercuts the BMW X3 xDrive30i by around $5,000. The 2010 SRX will be offered in North America with two petrol units, a new 260HP 3.0-liter direct injected V6 and a 300HP 2.8-liter turbocharged V6 that are both matted to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The SRX gets front-wheel drive as standard and all-wheel drive as optional.

Latter in the summer, the compact crossover will be joined by another new Cadillac, the CTS Sport Wagon. GM has yet to announcing pricing but expect it the Sport Wagon to be priced a little higher than the sedan variant of the CTS. The new Sport Wagon includes the same 260HP 3.0-liter Direct Injection engine that serves as the standard engine in the new SRX, returning an estimated highway fuel economy of 28 mpg.

Cadillac, Hummer and Saab Chief Mark McNabb Resigns from General Motors

After being at the helm of GM's premium Cadillac, Hummer and Saab brands for just over a year during which time the automaker took the decision to sell two of the three brands, Mark McNabb decided to jump ship resign from his position. The 48-year-old Vice President will be replaced on June 1st on a temporary basis by Stephen J. Hill, general sales manager of the autmoaker's premium channel since 2008. "He elected to pursue other career opportunities," said Cadillac spokesman Klaus-Peter Martin. "A big part had to do with he wanted to be closer to his family in New Jersey," he added.

Before joining the ranks of General Motors, McNabb served as senior vice president of sales and marketing at Nissan North America Inc.

Cadillac Escalade Hybrid gets the Platinum Touch

If you are in the market for a larger than life luxury SUV with a hypocritical drop of eco-friendliness, then you may want to take a look at the latest edition of Cadillac's 2009 Escalade Hybrid, called Platinum. The 2009 Escalade Platinum Hybrid is available in 2WD and 4WD configurations with prices starting from $84,935.

Cadillac SRX Crossover Sedan by Mahoning Redefines Elegance...

We believe that there are some things in this world that were never meant to be and one of those is transforming a Cadillac SRX into a sedan. It's not only that a SRX Crossover Sedan is completely useless (what's the point of reducing the SRX's practicality?), but more importantly, from a stylistic point of view, the result is even more repulsive than a SsangYong Musso with a boot.

Mahoning Automotive Design doesn't see it this way as the American firm states that its concept, which made its worldwide debut at the 2009 Cleveland Auto Show, "defines an exciting new type of passenger car: comfort, space, visibility, all-season capability and amazing utility, all wrapped in classic, elegant style with impressive road presence."

GM Issues official Statement on the Disbandment of its High-Performance Vehicle Operations

As part of its restructuring plan (we wonder how many times we've heard this phrase in the past and how many more times we'll be hearing it in the future....), General Motors has disbanded its High Performance Vehicle Operations unit. The company said that all 60 engineers impacted by this decision "have been placed in other engineering operations of General Motors to work on core, volume products, including further improvements in fuel efficiency and advanced propulsion."

General Motors' H.P.V.O. unit was responsible for the chassis and powetrain development of the firm's most potent sports cars such as the Chevy Cobalt and HHR SS models and the Cadillac CTS-V.

"When market conditions and public demand for high performance or specialty vehicles change in the future, General Motors will return these resources to their original tasks," said GM in the statement.

Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon: Updated Photo Gallery

General Motors gave the members of the press a second (or was that a third…) chance to check out the new CTS Sport Wagon during a media preview event at its Detroit central offices. The snazzy looking CTS Sport Wagon will make its (fourth or fifth) official introduction at the Paris Motor Show next month, and will be available at dealer showrooms in spring 2009. Powertrain options will include a 263 HP 3.6-liter V6 and a 304 Hp 3.6-liter direct injection V6 matched to a 6-speed manual or an electronically controlled 6-speed automatic. -Continued

GM Recalling Nearly 1 Million Vehicles Worldwide on Electrical Issue

General Motors will be sending letters to more than 944,000 owners worldwide, 857,735 of which are located in the U.S., due to voluntary recall that affects 16 cars and SUVs from 2006 to 2008. The huge recall involves vehicles fitted with a heated washer fluid system that could short circuit causing other electrical features to malfunction and lead to smoke or even fire. According to GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson, up until now, there have been three reported fires related to the problem. GM said that its dealers will install a wire harness with an in-line fuse free of charge. See the affected models after the jump. -Continued

Cadillac to Offer 4-Cylinder Compact Sedan in the U.S. in 2010

Cadillac’s next generation BLS sedan that was initially developed for overseas markets and especially for Europe will make its way into the U.S. in 2010 according to GM officials. The car, whose name has yet to be disclosed, will fit right under the CTS and will be offered with a range of 4-cylinder engines while GM execs are considering the option of V6 units.

"There is a big debate as to whether it is four only. I think that is a bridge too far," said Cadillac General Manager Jim Taylor at a recent press event covered by Automotive News. "There is a piece of the team who is thinking, 'Well, with this whole fuel economy and gas thing, we ought to go all the way, say, to fours.' We are resisting that at this stage." -Continued

The current front-wheel drive Cadillac BLS sedan and station wagon models sold in Europe are based on the already outdated Saab 9-3 and are offered with both 4-cylinder and V6 engines. However, GM’s ‘rebadged-engineering’ proved highly unsuccessful as the BLS didn’t even come close to convincing European buyers as an alternative to the BMW 3-Series and Audi A4 models.

This time GM aims to build a ‘true’ Caddy with the next generation BLS that will use a rear-wheel-drive architecture. Details are sketchy, but it is said that the BLS be based on a shortened version of the Zeta platform with a reworked suspension.

With the introduction of the next generation BLS, Cadillac will also have to reposition the CTS and aim it squarely against the Audi A6 and BMW 5-Series instead of a somewhat, in-between proposition in the sports sedan category.
